Interactive Maps - Database driven maps and services
City Map:
Use this interactive map for general browsing of the City as well as for conducting searches for addresses, businesses, parcels and so on.   Basemap options include a basic Street map, the City Zoning map, and a series of aerial photos (the latest from 2018).   Use the bookmark options to jump immediately to various locations throughout the City, including commercial centers, parks, and schools.   Special configurations of the site automatically make certain Optional Map Layers visible on the map, such as:
Historic Landmarks:  All of the designated Historic Districts, Landmarks, and Points of Interest. Click on any feature for limited details.
Park Amenities:  Photo basemap used instead of Streets and the City Park Amenities layer is automatically switched ON.
Pending Projects:  The list of pending projects found on this site is updated daily. Click on any colored shape to get project details.
Police Calls for Service Grid/Stats/Map:
This site allows you to explore date related to where, when, and why the Ventura Police are being called out for service via the 911 dispatch system.   The data behind this site is updated every morning and includes calls from the previous 180 days, as well as full Calendar Years and Fiscal Years from 2016 to the current year.   The site begins with a summary page where you can choose how many days to look back on or which full year of calls (calendar or fiscal) to explore.   The default setting is to look only at calls from Yesterday but by changing the Scope, the summary counts and bar graphs are automatically revised to reflect stats for the chosen scope.   Clicking on any one of the summary bars or counts will apply a Filter to narrow the focus to only those records that match that choice.   Once the scope and optional filter is set, the list of calls can be explored on an interactive map by clicking the [Show in Map View] link.   Changes to the scope and filter settings cannot be made from the map itself, but you can return to the stats/grid page by clicking on the [Show in Grid View] link.
Address Checker:
Find any known address in the City of Ventura by following the simple, on-screen instructions.   Once you have found an address, this site links you to all kinds of information about that address or parcel.   For example, you can jump into the City Map interactive map (see above) which will be zoomed in on the chosen address.   For addresses linked to parcels (which most are), you can link to a summary page of nearly 100 pieces of information tracked by the County Assessor about each secured property tax parcel.   This detail sheet also includes information about how that parcel shape lines up with other map layers, such as the FEMA Flood Zones, as determined by GIS analysis here at the City of Ventura.   You can also link to the Tax Collector's website to see if the property taxes are paid for that parcel.   Originally set up as a place where staff could go to find out if an address was on the GIS Master Address list, this simple site has evolved into a wonderful tool to quickly link to all kinds of useful information.   (small-footprint option here...)
Mobile-Friendly Maps:
Trying to get to this information from a mobile device that doesn't support Flash?   Follow this link to a menu of simple solutions based on the JavaScript API for ArcGIS.   These maps should be able to run on just about any operating system, even iOS and Android - let us know if you can't get it to work on your device.   They are each pointed and efficient solutions, but not at all flashy!

General Reference Map (69'' x 36'')
A colorful basemap showing parks, schools, commercial centers, water features, and all known streets.   Although this map does contain a street index, it is not an interactive map and does not support automated searches.   Interactive searches are possible using the City Map.
PLEASE NOTE: For faster viewing without downloading the PDF, use the ''Zoomify'' version of this map
City Zoning Map (60'' x 34'')
This map shows City Zoning for the entire City as well as a detailed look at the Downtown Specific Plan.   To learn more about the City's Zoning Regulations, please see the Online Municiple Code.
PLEASE NOTE: For faster viewing without downloading the PDF, use the ''Zoomify'' version of this map
General Plan Map (60'' x 36'')
Current General Plan designations with insets showing the Planning Communities and Planning Infill Areas.   While this is not a map from the 2005 Ventura General Plan document itself, it does incorporate elements found in Figures 3-1, 3-3, and 3-5.   See notes on the map for more details about its construction.
PLEASE NOTE: For faster viewing without downloading the PDF, use the ''Zoomify'' version of this map
Street Sweeping Map and Schedule (48'' x 36'')
Find out on which day of which week of the month each public street in the City will be swept.   You can also view a report PDF that lists the names of streets and which address ranges on those streets are swept on what days.
PLEASE NOTE: For faster viewing without downloading the PDF, use the ''Zoomify'' version of this map
Police Reporting Districts Map (69'' x 36'')
Ventura PD uses these Reporting District to develop meaningful statistics about calls for services and crime.   The areas designated as ''Beats'' are simply collections of Reporting Districts. Smaller RD maps also available in PDF format: Letter Color, Letter Grayscale, Tabloid Color, Tabloid Grayscale
PLEASE NOTE: For faster viewing without downloading the PDF, use the ''Zoomify'' version of this map
Fire Station Wall Map (91.75'' x 54'')
This enormous wall map hangs in every Fire Station in the City and includes the location of hydrants.   These maps are too large for us to print out on one page - we print three panels and splice them together before they are installed at the Fire Stations.
PLEASE NOTE: For faster viewing without downloading the PDF, use the ''Zoomify'' version of this map
INET Sites with Site List (82'' x 36'')
The Institutional NETwork (INET) connects dozens of facilities throughout the City via fiber-optic cable.   There is another, smaller document (17'' x 11'') showing just the list of INET sites without a map.
PLEASE NOTE: For faster viewing without downloading the PDF, use the ''Zoomify'' version of this map
Water Meters by Reading Cycles (17'' x 11'')
Ventura Water reads each meter approximately every eight weeks to determine water usage and calculate each customer's bi-monthly bill.   The map shows the total meters by location that are read each week in the eight ''reading cycles''.
Special Projects back to top...
Downtown Ventura 3D Model for GoogleEarth   (download SketchUp Models here)
This was a special project started in 2004 and completed in 2006 with the goal of creating a 3D model of all of the buildings in all of the blocks within the Downtown Ventura Redevelopment Area.   Follow this link to download the KMZ file that holds the output from this project.   This model was aligned with the GoogleEarth globe in 2006, but since then their globe has been updated, so these buildings no longer line up perfectly with the Google map.
PLEASE NOTE: In order to use this model, you will need to have GoogleEarth or some other software capable of viewing a KMZ file.
Walk 'n' Roll Walking Routes
This site will help you find a pre-defined walking route that you may want to take while you are in the downtown Ventura area.   It was originally created in 2005 when the City of Ventura hosted an alternative transportation event, called ''Walk 'n' Roll''.   The site has been updated include new starting points and new walking routes, some of which use trails that were not open until late 2012.
PIC4TURE Index Page
This site is the result of our attempt to keep a large collection of street level photos without the need to keep a geographic location for each photo.   Instead, each photo is associated with a block face based on a range of address numbers on one side of the street or the other (one side uses ODD numbers, the other side EVEN).   PIC4TURE is short for 'Photo Image Catalog 4 Tracking Urban Real Estate'.   Most of the images were collected in 2004-2005 but some historic images have been included, too.
About GIS at the City of Ventura back to top...
Welcome to VENTURA maps!
A geographic information system (GIS) is any system that captures, stores, analyzes, manages, updates, manipulates, and displays data that are linked to location. In the simplest terms, GIS is the merging of cartography, statistical analysis, and database technology.
The City of Ventura was one of the earliest adopters of this technology declaring in the original 1987 Request for Proposal that "the system is intended to complement and significantly enhance existing applications...to organize and relate all locational information in mapped form. It will be utilized by all departments to varying degrees primarily for analysis purposes rather than to create official record quality maps." By the end of that year, Ventura became one of the first local governments in California to begin using GIS technology.
Today, GIS is used more than ever in the City of Ventura. It provides the critical spatial element needed to support enhanced decision-making for economic analysis, smart growth, infrastructure maintenance, and public safety. It is now being integrated with all other major software applications including Permitting and the Police CAD (computer aided dispatch) system.
The GIS Division of Information Technology is an internal service for use by City staff on City projects. We hope that through the addition of these interactive mapping applications and by providing local information in its geographical context, we will improve the transparency of government and increase the civic engagement in our community.
Please help us improve these services with your feedback:   mailto:gis@cityofventura.ca.gov
Terms of Use back to top...
By entering this site, you are agreeing to the following terms of use:
The web mapping applications (accessible upon agreeing to this disclaimer) are provided as a public service by the City of Ventura, GIS (Geographic Information System) Division of Information Technology.
The City of Ventura provides this information with the understanding that it is not guaranteed to be accurate, correct or complete and that any conclusions drawn from such information are the sole responsibility of the user and made at their own risk. The City of Ventura shall assume no liability for: 1. Any errors, omission, or inaccuracies in the information provided regardless of how caused; or 2. Any decision made or action taken or not taken by the user in reliance upon any information or data furnished hereunder.
Availability of the City of Ventura Map Server is not guaranteed. Applications, servers, and network connections may be unavailable at any time for maintenance or unscheduled outages. Users are cautioned against creating dependencies on these services for critical needs.
Regarding parcel ownership: California Government Code 6254.21 states that "No state or local agency shall post the home address or telephone number of any elected or appointed official on the Internet without first obtaining the written permission of that individual." As the cost to collect and continuously update this information is prohibitive, the Ventura mapping application web site does not display the name and mailing address of the property owner.
Regarding Police Calls for Service: Calls for Service are not Crimes. They generally regard concerns for public safety and are typically initiated by the public through the 911 system. Public Safety Dispatchers receive the calls and assign the appropriate response, be it medical, fire, or police.
Regarding Links to External Sites: The City of Ventura neither endorses nor promotes these sites.  Links are provided for your convenience only.
